PDG to Receive Golden Brick Award!
Powell Design Group, along with our Design/Build partner Williams Co., will receive a Golden Brick Award this month from the City of Orlando's Downtown Orlando Partnership for the Executive MBA Classroom Project for UCF. The Golden Brick is awarded to projects which demonstrate design excellence while contributing significantly to the quality of life in Orlando's downtown core.
The Executive MBA Classroom project involved the remodeling of a historic building currently in use as a UCF classroom building, and included the redesign of 9,418 SF of second floor area. A beautiful new lecture hall with tiered seating for 64 people, perimeter offices, break-out room, kitchenette, student lounge and support spaces were among the improvements to the space.
Careful phasing of the project made it possible for existing facilities to remain in full operation during the construction process.

All Hands Project Featured on US Navy Website!
NAS Jax Breaks Ground on New All Hands Club
By Clark Pierce, Naval Air Station Jacksonville Public Affairs
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Air Station Jacksonville Commanding Officer Capt. Jeffrey Maclay joined key players to break ground for the new All Hands Club aboard the installation, May 17.
The $6.4 million project to replace 'The Zone' includes design and construction of a single-story 25,000 sq. ft. entertainment facility.
"The floor plan includes a casual-dining restaurant and lounge, and a chief petty officers' pub, along with a Bingo and banquet hall," said Maclay. "The architecture is very impressive. I'm sure this facility will become an entertainment landmark on base. Congratulations go out to our contractor partners Powell Design Group and Friedrich Watkins Company. We all look forward to the ribbon cutting ceremony in August of 2012."
"The architect gave us a showcase design with what we call a 'wow factor' – such as the dramatic roof design that is meant to mimic aircraft wings and an outdoor patio area," said Nick Bloomer, Public Works Department project manager. "And the Bingo crowd will be pleased to learn that the new hall will accommodate up to 250 players."
Public Works Officer Cmdr. Bill Siemer told the audience, "This project represents a significant accomplishment thanks to the hard work and coordination of many organizations, including Commander Navy Installations Command, U.S. Army Contracting, NAS Jacksonville MWR, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast, and our contractor partners."

PDG Architect of Record for 15 TD Bank Conversions
Toronto Dominion Bank (TD Bank) of Canada acquired The South Financial Group (the parent company of Mercantile Bank) in late 2009. Due to Powell Design Group's previous design of Mercantile Bank store prototypes, PDG was retained by Core States Group to provide services as Architect of Record for the conversions of 15 branches in the Florida market.
